Sustainable Development is a pattern of resource use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but in the indefinite future. The term was used by the Brundtland Commission which coined what has become the most often-quoted definition of sustainable development as development that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.â The field of sustainable development can be conceptually broken into three constituent parts: environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and sociopolitical sustainability.
Definition of Ecotourism
Purposeful travel to natural areas to understand the culture and natural history of the environment; taking care not to alter the integrity of the ecosystem; producing economic opportunities that make the conservation of natural resources beneficial to local people."
Definition of Green
A choice or attitude leading to environmental sustainability.
Definition of "Sustainable Development"
Development that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" ~ Brundtland Commission.

Conserving Water:
Our architects and planners have integrated water conservation measures throughout the community.
From beautiful, specially-designed low-flow bathroom fixtures to a highly efficient irrigation system,
Alouatta's design conserves water, a precious resource.
Conserving Energy:
Alouatta's dramatic design and exciting amenities utilize natural light and innovative strategies to
conserve power and thermal energy, and much of the power that is consumed at Alouatta will be generated
on-site. This reduces demand on the power grid and benefits the entire community.
Possible benefits of a Sustainable Ecotourism Development
Provide valuable financing, and volunteer efforts for Local conservation efforts.
Serve as economic justification for the preservation of nature and wildlife habitat.
Reduce exploitation of conservation areas (bad farming & logging) by supplying local peoples with viable (land friendly) economic alternatives.
Promote environmentalism and conservation, and foster awareness, education, and support.
Encourage private conservation efforts to augment & balance national efforts.
Steps to achieve low impact land development
Identify and understand the ecological and cultural context of the site
Preserve and enhance functioning natural processes
Minimize the size and severity of the development footprint
Utilize the built environment to contribute to the health of the site
Mitigate the remaining impact of development
Restore and Integrate beneficial natural processes into the everyday experience of the built environment
Priorities of land preservation and regeneration
Large tracts of native vegetation that connect and create riparian protection areas
Natural drainage patterns, including streams & drainage ways
Groundwater recharge areas
Good soils of high fertility and filtration
Vegetated steep or erodible slopes
High quality habitat or ecosystems
